The Eternal Feminine

Throughout history, women have been portrayed as mythical and wondrous objects in all forms of art. This is especially true in the renaissance, where women are more often depicted as allegories or symbols of men’s achievements.  Today in pop culture, women are still depicted as objects or prizes to be claimed.

The Eternal Feminine is an hour long theatrical experience, tracing the life of an archetypal woman.  As we journey through her development from childhood to maturity, the roles of women in art across the ages are juxtaposed and mirrored.  This interactive experience combines dance with theatre, visuals and music, with the audience firmly at the centre.

Combining music composed this year by creator Verena Barie, with music from the 16th century, this theatre piece breaks down the barriers of time to show that these themes are universally emotive and poignant.

The Eternal Feminine was selected as a winner of the Grachtenfestival pitch competition, in the category ‘Cross-over’. It will be premiered at the festival in August 2020.
